About This Project

As prime contractor, LM Heavy Civil Construction, LLC (LMH) self preformed $8.2 million of important emergency bridge repairs along the knowledge corridor route within 82 days of NTP, two days ahead of schedule, supporting MassDOT's efforts to enhance interstate rail transportation services, linking communities with commerce and opportunity.

Key Bridge work (with railroad service maintained during construction) included:

Bridge 0.55 (Springfield): full structure replacement of 2 active tracks, supported by new W14x176 steel beam/girders; construction of new cast-in-place (CIP) concrete bridge seat and backwall; new CIP concrete facing for each existing abutment; new walkway on the East side;

Bridge 34.82 (Deerfield- Greenfield over Deerfield River): replacement of 12 expansion bearings and 12 steel grillages under bearings of truss spans; work was preformed by accessing from top of bridge deck, with expansion end of each truss jacked up for bearing replacement; bottom horizontal bracing elements between bearings were modified and used as jacking beams; walkway on West side, consisting of 780 LF of new timber walkway (HSS2x1X3/16" welded steel handrail);

Bridge 3.60 (Chicopee): North and South concrete abutment facing repairs under active track in main track span; removal of deteriorated concrete and installation of minimum 6" new CIP concrete facing for each abutment (775 SF total, with 2,300 LB of rebar).
